I’ll be the first to admit, I get scared, anxious and sometimes sick to my stomach, when I am doing something that is very uncomfortable or new. I have been able to overcome this by getting excited about what I’m doing. Let’s say I’m contacting people about a product I’m promating, people I know but not well. I get very anxious, scared of what they will think of me or what will happen. I have found if I meditate, read my goals, read my personal mission statement and listen to music, I will get excited about what I’m doing and the fear and anxiety goes away.
Goal setting is, in my opinion, the most important things you can do for your personal and professional life. This is not just in your mind, but writing down and placed where the goals can be reviewed every day. How to set goals that I can complete.
The technique I learned is SMART
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Timely
Specific
Be specific in the goal not vague. Many people say “6 figure income” instead use a specific amount, $123,454.00. Say you aretrying to grow your email list, don’t use “Double my Email List” instead say, “I will have 9789 people on my email list”.
Another way is to answer the 5 W’s, What, Why, Who, Where, Which.
What: $132,034.00
Why: Replace my corporate salary
Who: I, or if working with partner then We
Where: Where you can see your goal accomplished, is it a trip to another country, in office, etc
Which: Details about trip or car, details about sales goal, “500 Sales”.
The goal does not have to use all W’s, but the more the better.
Measurable
How will you measure the goal. Might seam easy if goal is an income amount. What if goal is number of sales, member in downline. Again, don’t be vague. “I will have 9789 on my email list by adding 100 per week.”
Achievable
Yes, goal needs to be achievable but also needs to push your limits. If you have been making a monthly income of $12,000 then saying “$15,000” is probably not a stretch. Better to say “Monthly income of $20,000.”
Relevant
Goal needs to be relevant to your personal or professional life. Example: You sell weight loss, supplements and health productions online. Having a goal to buy an apartment building might not be relevant. (I’m not saying buying an apartment building is not a good goal, just as an example)
Time Sensitive
Give a specific date to achieve the goal. Don’t say ‘In 2 months’ instead say “March 31st, 2015”. The goal should be writing as if you have already achieved it.
Example
“Today is March 2nd, 2019, I am in my office looking at my sales income for the last 3 months. I have made an average of $20,143 income each month. I did this by helping people acheive their goals”
This is only one goal. You will probably have many. I currently have 3 goals writing down. I print out my goals and post in my office, bedroom and carry a copy with me.
One of the things I do every morning is look at my tasks, and say to my self ‘What task can I do to move me towards my goal?’. Then this task is has the highest priority For the day.
This will not work if you do not have definite and specific goals. And, create plans to achieve those goals. A goal with out a plan of action is just a dream.
